Recently, I followed a Twitter link to a new online news service called Civil.
Civil bills itself as a Marketplace for Sustainable Journalism and it’s promising quite innovative approaches to journalism and the presentation of news online.
The news industry has changed significantly in recent years and these seismic shifts have eroded the quality and sustainability of journalism worldwide. This is a worrying trend that is already having a negative impact on our democracies and our way of life. Journalism is a vitally important profession that we must protect and sustain.
Civil’s About Page notes:
We’re committed to introducing a new way forward that enables journalists to focus on journalism, not satisfying the clicks-over-quality mandate from third parties like advertisers and publishers.

At the time of writing, the service is not yet live, but it’s certainly an interesting concept. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all works out.
