Amazon’s cloud web hosting system Amazon Web Services (AWS) is currently experiencing major problems. So, if an unusually large number of websites you’ve tried to visit have been down over the last few hours, this AWS outage may be the culprit. AWS is used by vast numbers of websites, large and small, so any outage of the service can cause significant problems downstream.
The AWS Health Service Dashboard acknowledges the issue, citing “increased error rates” noting an update:
We continue to experience high error rates with S3 in US-EAST-1, which is impacting various AWS services. We are working hard at repairing S3, believe we understand root cause, and are working on implementing what we believe will remediate the issue.
At the time of writing, AWS continues to work on recovering normal operations. Hopefully, all of the impacted websites will be back up and running soon.
Update: AWS has now fully resolved this issue and all impacted websites are likely back online or will be very soon.
