Standing Desk - Varidesk

Looking for a Standing Desk? Varidesk is a Great Option

A few years ago, I injured my back. During the recovery period, I found it difficult and painful to sit down for long periods. Which is a tad problematical for a full time blogger.  So, I decided to get myself a standing desk.

Of course, I didn’t want to stand up to work ALL of the time, so I needed a system that I could easily and quickly change from sitting to standing and back again. There are many standing desk systems available, many of them fully motorised. However, full standing desk systems can be bulky, inelegant, and expensive.

Enter Varidesk. Varidesk is not a complete desk as such. Instead, it is an adjustable platform that sits on your existing desk.

My Varidesk handles my 27 inch iMac with ease. To adjust the height, you simply grip the handles underneath the Varidesk and lift up or down to suit yourself. Adjusting the height does not require much strength at all. Even when my back was at its worst, I could still lift the desk up and down easily.

There are several models available, so you can choose the Varidesk that best suits your needs and workflow. There are versions that will easily handle two monitors if your are duel monitor fan. And, there are several shapes and sizes designed to fit in a variety of office spaces.

Thankfully, my back is now much improved. But, I still use the Varidesk. I tend to change between sitting and standing several times throughout my work day. If I’m feeling a little lethargic,I find that standing up to work for a while can help me push through the lethargy and get on with it.

Moreover, health experts have long warned of the dangers of too much sitting. A report on the issue from the Mayo Clinic notes:

Research has linked sitting for long periods of time with a number of health concerns, including obesity and metabolic syndrome — a cluster of conditions that includes increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels. Too much sitting also seems to increase the risk of death from cardiovascular disease and cancer.

The Mayo Clinic report suggests using a standing desk as one means of combating health issues related to too much sitting.

So, standing up to work for at least some of the day is now a normal part of my working life and I wouldn’t have it any other way. You can find out more about Varidesk on the company’s website
